Debating certification and professional development

Continuing on from my
first look at
professional development and certification for the materiel and supply
community in the federal government, I asked a long-time friend in the
community to read it with a critical eye. He responded: the article
provided a good balance of truth, current information and controversial
questions needing to be asked. While some questions have since been
answered, there is still a need for a better communication strategy to
departmental employees so that each person can evaluate what it means to
them.

Introducing the materiel and supply management professional development
program

A new professional development program has been developed over the
past 18 months by the federal government Materiel and Supply Management
Steering Committee, an interdepartmental body comprised of representatives
from 20 federal departments, agencies and bargaining agents. The program,
regarded as one of the key pillars of the government's procurement reform
initiative, is being launched to enhance the skills, professionalism and
value-added contribution of procurement, materiel and supply managers
across government in delivering programs and services to Canadians.
